We just got back from a weekend in St. Louis where we celebrated my mom and dad's 50th anniversary. The celebration was delayed for six months when mom was diagnosed with lung cancer over Christmas. After chemo and radiation treatments they declared her in remission just in time to make the celebration that much better.
As you can see we make a pretty large group. I'm the eldest of seven and we're now up to 13 grandchildren. We managed to get everyone but one of my nieces in town at one time (Kristin was in South Dakota on a trip with her church and we couldn't get flights to work).
My two sisters did all the work of making the weekend come together, but as the eldest I got tagged with speech making duties. How do you sum up 50 years? Seven healthy kids and 13 grandchildren isn't bad. Now that I have two boys of my own, I am in awe of anyone who can do even an average job of being a parent. What mom and dad did that I especially appreciate is give each of us room to find our own way. Here's the summary so far:
- 3 Priory graduates (it's a St.Louis thing)
- 1 Nurse
- 2 Teachers
- 1 Veterinarian
- 1 Photographer
- 1 Artist
- 2 Musicians
- 1 Pilot
- 5 Bachelor's degrees
- 2 MBAs
- 1 Ph.D.
- 2 Entrepreneurs
- 4 Computer jocks
- 2 Authors
- 1 Lawyer
